Pharmacists Speaking Out On the Over-Distribution of the Oxys, Roxies and Blueberries -- This Week on The Prescription Addiction Radio Show -- Breakin

Tampa, Florida (PRWEB) July 14, 2008 -- The evidence of a growing prescription drug epidemic continues to increase in our country, according to Larry G, host of The Prescription Addiction Radio Show (www.prescriptionaddictionradio.com) and this Sunday night guest pharmacists will be speaking out on the show on WGUL 860 AM on July 20 at 9:05 p.m. eastern (streamed live on the Internet at http://www.860wgul.com ).

Larry G explains, "The drug companies call them pain pills and the drug addicts call them Oxys, Roxies and Blueberries. The doctors call them alprazolam and on the street they are called Ladders, Bars and Totem Poles, but horribly it is now estimated that deaths that include prescription drugs are surpassing deaths from guns in the United States."

Statistics published from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse (CASA), the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMSHA), the Drug Abuse Warning Network (DAWN), the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), National Institute of Health (NIH) and a myriad of additional organizations that include national, state and local contingencies, all echo the growing problem of addiction and death.

For the citizens in Florida, the most startling statistics were released recently by the Florida Medical Examiners. A record 8,620 drug-related deaths were reported in 2007, an increase of 11% over 2006. As in recent years, about 69% of the deaths included prescription drugs with Methadone, Benzodiazepines, Oxycodone, Hydrocodone, and Morphine making up the vast majority of deaths that included a prescription drug.

The "Prescription Addiction Radio Show - Breaking the Silence" focuses on the damage and destruction too many prescription drugs are doing to families in our country. Whether it is discussing the loss of a loved one, the over-prescribing by a doctor or a complicit pharmacist, the radio show covers all aspects of prescription drug misuse. Larry G, the outspoken pharmacist and radio host is quick to zero in on what he calls "the over-marketing and over-selling of addictive prescription drugs, along with the creation of the growing ranks of medical charlatans who freely prescribe and distribute the thousands of pills that are reaching our streets on a daily basis. In Tampa Bay, it is well known that $300 cash will buy you a prescription for oxycodone, the therapeutic equivalent of heroin, from an unscrupulous doctor."

Pharmacists have long been recognized by surveys year after year as being one of the most trusted professions in our country. Find out Sunday night if your pharmacist can be trusted or has willingly become the middleman in the drug deal.
