I Love Two Way Radios And You Should Too

Two way radios are awesome! Do you even know what they are? They are radios that allow you to communicate in two ways! Unlike a phone, two way radios are limited in the distance that they can transmit and receive signal.

As a child, do you remember having walkie-talkies? You probably used to have a set. The set I had even had a Morse code button on it, and a key that showed common Morse codes that stood for certain words and phrases.

S.O.S. is one you?ve probably heard of, which is three short beeps for ?S?, three long beeps for ?O?, then three more short beeps for another ?S?. S.O.S. means ?Save Our Ship? and was a common command used back in the days when two way radios were used by ship captains to call for help and communicate with other ships.

Even if you never learned Morse code, you probably had fun with walkie-talkies which is another name for two way radios. Your friend or sibling probably went around one side of the house while you were on the other side. Then you would message back and forth and pretend to be police, firemen, or even spies! How much fun was that?

Did you know that two way radios are still used today, and not just as toys? There are high quality two way radios you can buy from stores and online that allow you to keep in touch with people in areas where cell phone signal is low or non-existent!

Conventional two way radios use fixed radio frequency (RF) channels to send and receive audio or other information. Newer radios have multiple channels so that, in case other people are using two way radios nearby, you can find an unused channel.

One application of two way radios is for emergency crews such as police and firemen. Most likely you?ve seen televisions shows such as Law & Order or Cops, where the authorities use two way radios to connect to others in law enforcement or emergency situations. Again, the importance of a two radio in these situations is that cell phone technologies and other communication technologies might not be as stable or as effective as two way radio technology.

What a concept! A technology that came out as early as 1912 is still in use a century later and is still superior in certain applications! That?s pretty amazing!

Two way radios are also useful for average people who want to do things like travel. If you are traveling with a loved one such as a friend or relative (especially a younger one) you?ll want to stay in contact. Two way radios, once again, are the ideal choice since they are not subject to cell tower proximity or cellular signal availability. Just press the button and talk, as long as you?re within a certain distance.

And yes, children do still use ?walkie-talkie? two way radios. Surprisingly, they still enjoy it just as much as we did, too! Perhaps this is one invention that will outlive us all!
