Little Time Radio, Big Time Opportunities
Every business owner interested in Publicity wants to do the big syndicated radio shows. Many overlook the smaller opportunities available in non-syndicated radio shows. Now I'm not talking about radio shows in tiny little towns of 5000 in which the talk radio host is also the DJ, the radio manager, and quite possibly the mayor of the town. I'm discussing those viable radio shows in most cities that cater to their own demographics. What do these shows have to offer the businessman in terms of exposure?
Consider these:
Closer Relationship With The Listeners: The fact is that if the audience is one hundred thousand instead of five million, there is a good chance your talk show host has a closer, more intimate relationship with his listeners. In turn his listeners feel that the show host is part of their everyday lives and takes his advice closer to heart. That means when he suggests they take a look at your website they most likely will!
The Bigger Plug: While five million listeners will hear about your website and business opportunity on a syndicated show how many will actually visit? The turn around in small shows is actually a bit higher due to the relationship factor between host and audience. Confidence soars when the host is local and with in reach of his audience. Additionally, because it's a smaller, friendly, one on one show the host will most likely give you more opportunities to plug your site and opportunity.
Opportunities To Return: Smaller stations tend to be hungrier for content. Due to this situation you will more than likely have opportunities to return to the show every six months or so. This is providing that you do a bang up job while on the air.
Little Numbers Add Up: Smaller shows are a great way to get the kind of exposure and experience you need to get introduced into the larger markets. Publicity is a little akin to building a resume. You're more likely to succeed if you start small and build from there.
Networking The Relationship: Radio hosts are fun people. There is no way around that. Very, very few radio hosts will greet you with anything but enthusiasm and a great attitude. It's very hard not to want to be friends and building these relationships can be very valuable for you in the long run. Most radio hosts are just like the rest of us, on the way up. They may change stations, go to a bigger market, and even someday become syndicated. By building these relationships it becomes easier and easier to take the next step with them. Additionally, most radio hosts will share contacts, which can increase your exposure as well.
Small radio shows are not small opportunities. They build on each other to create a very large impact on your overall exposure. Take the time to build these important relationships and the results will astound you.
